CHANT – Crucian Heritage & Nature Tourism is recruiting community-minded Tour Guides to lead historical walking tours in the towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted.
Through professional training workshops, you’ll learn how to share Crucian history, culture, and everyday life with visitors, students, and residents.

CHANT’s professional training workshops will be held during November and early December. These sessions are open to all persons interested in becoming Tour Guides for both Christiansted and Frederiksted.

Two Historic Towns, One Island of Stories
Christiansted – Harbor, Fort, and Historic Streets
Founded in 1734 on the site of an earlier French settlement called Bassin, Christiansted was carefully planned by Danish governor Frederik Moth. The grid layout and yellow-brick buildings still give the town its harmonious look today.
Along the waterfront, the Christiansted National Historic Site preserves key 18th–19th century structures like Fort Christiansvaern, the Customs House, the Scale House, the Steeple Building, and Government House — each telling the story of colonial administration, the sugar economy, and the lives of enslaved Africans and free people of color.
Frederiksted – Fireburn, Freedom, and Community
On St. Croix’s west end, Frederiksted stands as a testament to courage and renewal. Anchored by Fort Frederik, this historic town witnessed the 1878 Fireburn, when laborers — led in part by women remembered as the Queens of the Fireburn — rose up for better wages and working conditions.
Many of the town’s 18th-century buildings were rebuilt afterward, leaving behind distinctive arcades, colorful facades, and an enduring spirit of freedom and resilience that define Frederiksted today.
